Mohs  Micrographic  Surgery  Instructions

BEFORE SURGERY

  1. Don’t take aspirin for 10 days or drink any alcoholic beverages for 2 days before your scheduled Mohs Surgery appointment.
  2. Don’t forget to discontinue any medications that you have been instructed to stop taking.
  3. Arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery.

 

THE DAY OF SURGERY

  1. Eat a normal breakfast.
  2. Take all medications you normally take except for any you may have been instructed to discontinue.
  3. After washing as usual in the morning, do not apply anything (such as a moisturizer or sunscreen) to the surgery site or surrounding area.
  4. Women should not wear any make-up (including lipstick or eye make-up) or jewelry.
  5. Come in relaxed and ready to spend the day. Bring something you enjoy doing to occupy your waiting time (e.g., a book, knitting, or music cassettes—we have a cassette player you may use).

 

AFTER SURGERY

  1. Make sure you are given written wound care instructions before you leave.
  2. Have someone drive you home. Relax and take the rest of the day off.
  3. Don’t plan any out of town trips for at least 10 days after our surgery.
  4. Don’t take aspirin or drink alcohol for 7 days after your surgery.
  5. Return to the office for your appointments as instructed.
